I got to play Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for the Vita. It was awesome. I honestly didn’t think I was going to get the Vita anytime because I didn’t really like any of the launch tittles but after playing this and Gravity Rush I just might have to get it ASAP. Anyway, here is some gameplay.

So I have been playing a lot of Reality Fighters at the Playstation’s Vita Hill in Boston. In the game, Mister Miyagi’s floating head guides you through a button mashing good time (no joke). But just because it’s a button masher it doesn’t mean it’s still not a lot of fun. You have the camera scan your face and then you can fight anywhere you want with the new Augmentated Reality feature. You can also use the back pad for moves instead of the buttons. Like swipe up a move and down for another. Take a look at these videos to see what I mean.

“With make up and a pretty dress a girl is reborn over and over”
**SPOILERS AHEAD**
A live action adaption of Ai Yazawa’s best selling manga, Paradise Kiss, was released in Japan back in June. The movie stars Keiko Kitagawa as Yukari (better known as Sailor Mars in PGSM and lil bow wow’s girlfriend in Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift lol) and Osamu Mukai as George. The fan-subbed version of the movie is now floating around the interwebs and if you look hard enough you can find it.
First let me say that Ai Yazawa (most famous for Nana) is my favorite mangaka and she is also one of my favorite story tellers of all time. In fact, the only stories I have ever really enjoyed that do not contain a element of fantasy or sci-fi have come from her… (this does not include Degrassi). So the live action adaption had a lot to live up to.
If you have never read Parakiss and just want to watch a decent Japanese Drama movie than it’s not bad at all. I thought Keiko Chan made a very good Yukari and Mukai captured the effeminate yet sadistic George pretty well. The problem was, in the manga, George and Yukari’s romance is passionate, messy and unconventional in every sense of Japanese tradition. In the movie the passion wasn’t there. They were just like two very good friends with almost nonexistent sexual tension. I mean, when she moves in she gets her own room and they never even touch each other. Gross.
Isabella (played by Shunji Igarashi) was the best adapted character by far. I was very happy when they did not cut out any of the key points to his back story out. They even showed a flash back which included a very confused little boy Japanese actor trying on an elaborate dress. Miwako and Arashi were pretty true to their original characters but I missed Miwako’s pink hair. They included the back story of the love triangle between the couple and Tokumori but it wasn’t quite how I remembered. Kaori’s character is the same but she is still a student at the school is rivaling Paradise Kiss in the school’s show.
The movie drags on well past its climax and this is where everything goes terribly wrong for the film. One of the reasons I love Ai Yazawa so much is that he stories never have a fairy tail ending. Just like in real life, the characters you want to end up together never ever do. The manga is small glance of a time in Yukari’s life and her temporary romance with George. In the Manga’s epilogue Yukari has not spoken to George in years and has merely heard rumors that he is a theatrical costume designer. She is a has been model but happy with her life as a wife to a successful doctor. However, the Movie ends in New York where she runs in George and they allude to the couple living happily every after. Barf. The fact they end up together really takes away from George leaving her all the clothes he has ever made.
So in short – the movie lacks the passionate, sadistic and crazy elements of the relationship between Yukari and George but other than that I enjoyed the film and even got a little teary eyed at some points. It wasn’t as good as the Live Action Nana movie (the first one… not the second) but still they still kept a lot of my favorite parts of the original manga.
So if you’re in the mood and have the chance to watch it you should defiantly go for it… but I wouldn’t worry too much about seeing it ASAP.
